How to plan a corporate offsite in Wayanad
Wayanad is one of the more practical hill destinations for a Bangalore team. The drive is around 4.5 to 6 hours depending on your pickup points, the weather is cooler than the city, and the options for both stay and activities have improved considerably over the last few years. This guide covers what you actually need to know to plan it properly.

Most groups travel by AC tempo travellers or a mix of SUVs and minibuses. The standard route is Mysore Road via Gundlupet and Sulthan Bathery, which is the smoothest drive. The Kozhikode route via Calicut is an option if your venue is near Kalpetta or Mananthavady, but add another 30 to 45 minutes. Budget around 3,500 to 6,500 INR per vehicle one way depending on size. Start early, ideally by 6 AM, to avoid Bangalore exit traffic and to reach before lunch. If a few people are flying, the nearest airports are Calicut and Mysore. Calicut is closer to the northern parts of Wayanad and is often the better pick. Ground transfers from Calicut to most resorts run 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
Choosing the right venue
Wayanad has a mix of large resorts that can handle 30 to 150 people in one booking and smaller plantation stays that suit groups of 15 to 40. If your offsite has a structured conference agenda, confirm that the property has a dedicated conference room with a projector, stable power backup, and catering for three meals. Many plantation-style properties are beautiful but are not set up for full-day meetings. Ask specifically about Wi-Fi quality as it varies widely and matters if your team needs to stay partly connected. For a two-night trip, areas around Vythiri and Lakkidi work well. They are roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Kalpetta town for any last-minute requirements. Expect to pay somewhere between 3,500 to 8,500 INR per person per night on full board for a decent property, depending on the season and group size.
Building your agenda
A two-night, three-day format works well for most teams. Day one is largely travel, check-in and a light evening session, perhaps a team dinner with an icebreaker activity. Day two is your main workday. A morning strategy or review session from 9 AM to 1 PM, followed by an outdoor activity in the afternoon, a bamboo rafting session at Pookode or a guided trek through a coffee estate, and then an informal evening around a bonfire or cultural programme. Day three is a half-day. Wrap up any open discussions before lunch, then head back to Bangalore. Keep the agenda realistic. Teams lose energy after 5 to 6 hours of structured sessions. Build in one block of genuine free time.
Permits, timing and things people miss
Wayanad falls partly under forest department jurisdiction. Some activities like jeep safaris in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and certain trekking routes need advance permits. Your venue or activity vendor should handle this, but confirm it in writing before you finalise. The sanctuary has restrictions on group sizes too, so if you have more than 25 people who want a safari, you will need to split into batches. The best months are October to February. March to May is manageable but warm. Avoid the peak monsoon months of June and July for a first-time offsite as some roads get tricky and outdoor activities are limited. December and the last week of November can get expensive as it is peak season, so book at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we book a Wayanad offsite for a team of 50?
Six to eight weeks is a safe lead time for most of the year. For December or the holiday period around Christmas and New Year, push that to ten to twelve weeks. Good properties with conference facilities at that group size get taken quickly.
What is a realistic per-head budget for a two-night Wayanad offsite?
For a mid-range property with full board, conference room, two activities and road transport from Bangalore, plan for somewhere between 12,000 to 18,000 INR per person. This varies based on the property tier, group size and the specific activities you add. Smaller groups generally pay more per head.
Can we do a one-night offsite to Wayanad from Bangalore?
Technically yes, but it is quite rushed. You spend most of day one driving and most of day two driving back, which leaves very little time for any meaningful work or team activity. Two nights is the minimum that makes the trip worthwhile for most teams.
Do all Wayanad resorts have conference facilities?
No, and this is a common issue. Many properties that look suitable online are set up for leisure travel and have no proper conference room or AV equipment. Always confirm screen or projector availability, seating capacity for your format, and power backup before signing a booking agreement.
