How to plan a corporate offsite in Thekkady

Thekkady works well for Bangalore teams that want something greener and quieter than Coorg without flying anywhere. The drive is around 7 to 8 hours, the weather is cooler than the city, and there is enough to do that you can fill two full days without padding the agenda.

Getting your team to Thekkady

Most teams travel by hired AC coaches or tempo travellers from Bangalore. Budget around 10 to 14 hours door to door if you account for a meal stop and traffic leaving the city on a Friday evening. Leaving by 9 PM on Friday and arriving by 5 to 6 AM Saturday works better than a daytime departure. A few groups split the journey and stop overnight in Munnar, which adds cost but makes the travel easier on older team members. If your headcount is under 15, self-drive in SUVs is also workable and often preferred by smaller, younger teams.

Where to stay

Thekkady has a decent range of resorts along the Kumily road and near the Periyar lake area. For corporate groups, look at properties with a conference room, open lawns and a dining area that can seat your full team together. Room inventory at mid-range properties runs roughly 3,500 to 6,500 per room per night on weekdays, higher on weekends and during the October to January peak season. Book early if you are travelling between November and January. Most properties that suit groups have 20 to 40 rooms, so a team of 40 to 60 people can comfortably take over a single property, which makes coordination much simpler.

What to put in the agenda

Two nights and two full days is the right duration for most teams. Keep the first day light, a spice plantation walk or a boat ride on Periyar lake in the afternoon, then a team dinner with some activity in the evening, bonfire or a quiz. The second day is where you run structured sessions, workshops or strategy discussions in the morning when energy is higher, and leave the afternoon free or for optional activities like elephant interactions or trekking. Avoid trying to run formal sessions on the travel day. Teams arrive tired and attention is poor. One half-day of structured work is genuinely more productive than two days of forced sessions.

What to budget

For a mid-range offsite, plan for 8,000 to 12,000 per person per night all inclusive, covering accommodation, all meals, basic activities and a team dinner. That means a two-night trip for 40 people sits somewhere between 6.4 lakhs and 9.6 lakhs before transport. Coach hire from Bangalore to Thekkady and back adds roughly 25,000 to 35,000 per coach depending on vehicle type and operator. If you want a premium property, adventure activity packages or a guest speaker, add those separately. Treemonks can give you a line-item estimate once we know your headcount, dates and activity preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Is Thekkady a good offsite destination in the monsoon?

June to September is monsoon season and the Periyar lake area gets heavy rain. Outdoor activities are limited and some roads can get tricky. If your dates fall in this window, Thekkady is not the strongest choice. Coorg or a Chikmagalur property with covered activity spaces would serve you better.

How many people can a typical Thekkady resort accommodate for a corporate group?

Most properties suited to corporate groups can handle 30 to 60 people comfortably. A few larger resorts go up to 80 to 100 rooms but those tend to have a more hotel-like feel, less private. For a team that wants exclusivity, 40 to 50 people is the sweet spot for a full resort buyout.

Do we need any permits for activities inside Periyar Tiger Reserve?

Yes. Activities like the bamboo rafting, border hiking and the nature walk inside the reserve are managed by the Kerala Forest Department and need advance booking. Slots fill up fast in peak season. Your venue or a local operator can handle the bookings but confirm at least two to three weeks before travel.

Can we customise the team activity programme?

Yes, that is exactly what Treemonks does. We work with local activity vendors in Thekkady and can put together a programme based on your team size, fitness levels and what you want the team to take away from the trip. Tell us if you want the focus on outdoor adventure, structured team building or a quieter offsite with more free time, and we build accordingly.
