Best time of year for a team offsite in BR Hills
BR Hills is about 220 kilometres from Bangalore, roughly a 4 to 5 hour drive depending on your route and traffic. The experience changes quite a bit across the year, so the timing you pick will affect everything from road conditions to what the group can actually do outdoors. This guide covers each season honestly, so you can match the trip to your team's priorities.
Get a proposalWinter (October to February): The most reliable window
This is the safest bet for most corporate groups. Temperatures sit between 12 and 22 degrees Celsius, the roads are dry, and the forest is at its most accessible. Wildlife sightings at Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary are more frequent because animals come to water sources. Early morning sessions or outdoor activities are comfortable, and evenings are cool enough that teams actually enjoy sitting outside. Accommodation fills up around December and January, especially over long weekends and the Christmas to New Year stretch. Book at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead if your dates fall in that window. Budget roughly INR 4,000 to 8,000 per person per night for decent resort options, depending on what is included.
Summer (March to May): Workable, with some caveats
March is still pleasant. By April and May the afternoons get hot, around 30 to 34 degrees Celsius at lower elevations, though the hilltop stays a few degrees cooler than Bangalore. If your group is mostly doing indoor sessions with some morning nature walks, summer works fine. Availability is good and rates are often lower than the winter peak. The main thing to watch is that the forest department sometimes restricts access to certain trails and zones during the dry season due to fire risk. Confirm current access rules before you finalise an agenda built around outdoor activities. Safari timings may also be adjusted.
Monsoon (June to September): High risk, high reward for the right group
The hills get heavy rainfall from June through August. The forest turns dense and green, mist covers the canopy most mornings, and the whole place looks quite different from the dry season. Some teams find this atmosphere genuinely good for a focused offsite, especially if the agenda is mostly indoor and you are not depending on outdoor programming. The road from Chamarajanagar side can get slippery and the Yelandur route sometimes has waterlogging after heavy rain. Certain forest trails and the sanctuary zone may be closed. If your group includes people who get motion sick or if you are moving a large bus, do a route check closer to the date. Rates drop noticeably in monsoon, sometimes by 20 to 30 percent compared to peak season.
Shoulder months (September and late February to March): Often the best value
Late September sees the tail end of the monsoon. The forest is still green, leeches are mostly gone by then, and the roads have cleared up. Similarly, late February and the first two weeks of March offer post-peak availability with good weather. These windows tend to give you the scenery of the wet season without most of the logistical headaches. For HR teams working with a fixed budget, these shoulder periods often let you get better properties at rates closer to the off-season price. Since the sanctuary is also less crowded, your group gets a more quiet experience, which tends to work well for leadership retreats and smaller teams of 10 to 30 people.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we book a BR Hills offsite?
For peak winter dates, especially October, November, December and the Republic Day weekend, book at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead. For summer and monsoon months you can usually manage with 3 to 4 weeks notice. Smaller properties with 8 to 15 rooms fill up faster than you might expect because they take full buyouts from other groups.
Is BR Hills suitable for large groups of 100 or more?
It is not ideal for very large groups. Most properties in the area are mid-sized resorts or eco-stays with limited room inventory. For 100 plus people you would typically need to block multiple properties, which adds coordination complexity. BR Hills works best for groups of 15 to 60 people where a single property buyout is practical.
Are there any travel restrictions or permits needed to enter the forest area?
The Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary requires entry permits for vehicles going into the core zone. These are managed by the forest department and can be arranged through your resort or a local operator. During the monsoon, parts of the sanctuary may be closed entirely. Confirm the current status with the property before finalising your activity schedule.
What is a realistic all-in budget per person for a two-night BR Hills offsite?
For a two-night trip including accommodation, meals, a nature activity and basic team sessions, budget INR 12,000 to 20,000 per person depending on the property tier and group size. Transport from Bangalore adds roughly INR 800 to 1,200 per person for a coach. Custom team-building programmes, if you bring in a facilitator, are priced separately.
