The Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple at the top of the hill is a short detour and gives a decent view over the forest. The drive up itself is reasonably scenic and breaks the journey nicely. If your group has a later return window, the Punajanur area on the way back has a few local fruit stalls and small dhabas that are worth a stop. Do not build a tight schedule. Roads in this stretch can slow you down, and it is better to have buffer time than to be rushing the last leg at night.

The route from Bangalore typically goes through Electronic City, then Hosur or Kanakapura depending on your starting point, and onward via Kollegal. Road quality is decent on the national highway stretch but patches after Kollegal need attention, so mid-size buses and traveller vans manage better than large coaches. Leave Bangalore by 6 to 6.30 AM to reach by 10.30 AM. Plan to head back by 4.30 to 5 PM to avoid reaching the city after 10 PM.
