How to plan a corporate offsite in BR Hills
BR Hills is about 220 kilometres from Bangalore, roughly a 4 to 5 hour drive depending on your starting point in the city. It is quieter than Coorg or Chikmagalur, which makes it easier to actually get work done between activities. This guide covers what you need to know before you book.

Most teams drive down via Mysuru Road or the Chamarajanagar route. Both roads are manageable but the last 30 to 40 kilometres into the hills is a winding forest road, so factor that in if anyone in your group is prone to carsickness. Budget coaches and tempo travellers work fine up to the foothills. Beyond that, smaller vehicles or SUVs are more practical. Leave Bangalore by 6 AM on day one and you arrive by late morning with time to settle in before lunch. There is no rail or air option that saves meaningful time. Self-drive is possible but tiring. For groups of 20 or more, a hired coach to Chamarajanagar followed by smaller vehicles for the final stretch is the most common arrangement.
Venues and accommodation
Options in BR Hills sit in two categories. There are a few mid-range forest resorts that can handle groups of 15 to 40 people, with dormitory-style rooms or cottages, a common dining area and basic conference setup. Rates for full-board packages generally run from around Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,500 per person per night depending on the property and season. Avoid peak wildlife season months like October and November if you want easier availability and better rates. Do not expect five-star facilities. Connectivity is patchy at best, which is actually useful if you want people off their phones. Confirm generator backup, projector availability and dietary options when you shortlist. A few properties near the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary require prior permission for large groups, so check that early.
Agenda structure that works here
A two-night, three-day format suits BR Hills well. Day one is travel and a light evening activity, an outdoor quiz or a short nature walk. Day two is your heavy lifting: a half-day structured workshop or strategy session in the morning, then an outdoor team activity in the afternoon. Safaris inside the BRT Wildlife Sanctuary are a practical option and most resorts can arrange permits, though slots are limited so book at least two weeks in advance. Day three is usually a morning debrief or open retrospective, then check-out and the drive back. Keep the agenda on day two tight. Groups lose focus after lunch in a forest setting and fighting that is not worth the effort. Plan for it, not against it.
Budget and what to plan for
A realistic all-in budget for a two-night offsite, including transport from Bangalore, accommodation, meals, activities and a basic workshop facilitator, sits somewhere between Rs 12,000 and Rs 18,000 per person for a group of 25 to 40 people. Smaller groups cost more per head because the fixed costs do not split as efficiently. Items that often get missed in the first draft budget: permit fees for the sanctuary, gratuity for resort staff, contingency for a medical kit or first-aid support, and transport for any last-minute requirements on the ground. BR Hills has limited options nearby if something goes wrong logistically, so over-prepare on the ground support side.

Frequently asked questions
Is BR Hills suitable for a team that wants both work sessions and outdoor activities?
Yes, it works well for that combination. The forest setting keeps the atmosphere calm during work sessions and there are enough outdoor options like safaris, nature trails and birdwatching to fill activity slots meaningfully. Just do not try to pack in too much on day two.
How far in advance should we book for a BR Hills offsite?
At least six to eight weeks in advance for a group of 20 or more. Safari permits from the forest department have limited daily slots and the better resorts fill up on long weekends quickly. Waiting until three weeks out usually means settling for your second or third choice of property.
What is the best time of year to go?
December to February is generally comfortable, with cool mornings and mild afternoons. March to May gets warm but is still manageable. Avoid the heavy monsoon months of July and August as the forest road gets difficult and some properties reduce operations. October and November can be busy because of wildlife sighting interest.
Can we arrange a facilitator or trainer on-site at BR Hills?
Most properties do not have in-house facilitators for professional workshops. You will need to bring your own or hire one from Bangalore who travels with the group. Factor in their travel, accommodation and fees separately. Treemonks can help coordinate this if you need a recommendation.
