Best time of year for a team offsite in Hampi

Hampi is roughly 340 km from Bangalore, about six to seven hours by road or a short overnight train to Hospet. The weather and crowd levels shift quite a bit across the year, and the wrong month can turn a well-planned offsite into a sweaty, waterlogged mess. Here is what each season actually looks like on the ground.

October to February: The reliable window

This is when most corporate groups come, and for good reason. Daytime temperatures sit between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius, evenings are cool, and the boulder landscapes are genuinely comfortable to walk around in. Properties have good availability in October and November, but December and January see a spike in leisure tourists, so book accommodation at least six to eight weeks out and expect slightly higher rates. Outdoor team activities, coracle rides, and evening sessions around the ruins all work well in this period. Travel by overnight Hampi Express from Yeshwantpur is easy to coordinate for larger groups.

March to May: Hot, but workable with planning

Temperatures climb to 35 to 42 degrees Celsius by April and May. Most outdoor activity needs to finish before 9 AM or start after 4 PM. If your programme is mostly indoor workshops with some sightseeing, this period is fine. Room tariffs drop noticeably and availability is easy, so the budget case is strong. Avoid scheduling full-day outdoor tracks in this window. Groups that need a mix of indoor strategy sessions and a short cultural outing in the evenings often find March workable before the heat peaks.

June to August: Monsoon, proceed carefully

Hampi gets a moderate monsoon. The landscape turns green and the crowds thin out almost entirely. A few properties close or run skeleton staff. Road conditions on the Hospet to Hampi stretch are generally fine, but some of the boulder trails become slippery and coracle rides stop when the Tungabhadra is in spate. This window suits small groups who want privacy and lower costs and whose programme does not depend on outdoor movement. Confirm with your property that they are fully operational before you finalise dates.

September: The sweet spot many teams overlook

By late September the rains ease, the river settles, and the site is still green. Crowds are low, prices are off-season, and most activities reopen. Temperatures are comfortable, usually 28 to 33 degrees Celsius through the day. The main risk is an extended monsoon in a heavy rainfall year, which can push the river levels up into early October. Build one buffer day into the itinerary if you are travelling in the first two weeks of September.

Frequently asked questions

Which month is best for a large group offsite in Hampi?

November is the most practical month overall. The weather is pleasant, all venues and activities are fully running, and you are past the post-monsoon uncertainty. Book early because leisure travel picks up from late November onward and good properties fill quickly.

How far in advance should we book for a December offsite?

At least eight weeks out for accommodation, more if your group is above 40 people. December sees strong leisure demand and Hampi has a limited supply of properties that can handle corporate groups cleanly. Waiting until a month before will leave you with whatever is left.

Is Hampi accessible by train from Bangalore?

Yes. The Hampi Express runs overnight from Yeshwantpur to Hospet, arriving in the morning. Hospet is about 13 km from the main Hampi site. For groups, this is usually more comfortable than a long road journey, though you will need vehicle transfers from Hospet.

Can we do an offsite in Hampi during the monsoon?

You can, but it needs a different programme design, mostly indoor sessions with limited outdoor movement. Confirm that your chosen property is fully staffed and that any outdoor activities you want are actually available in that period. It works best for small groups of 15 to 25 people who value quiet and lower costs over a full activity slate.
